THE POWER OF UNSPOKEN VOICES

(THE DOCUMENTARY)

So, what is all this about then?

Welcome to our documentary project exploring the fascinating world of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). (Not sure what AAC means? Click here!)

Our feature-length hard-hitting documentary, "The Power of Unspoken Voices", will shed light on the diverse experiences of individuals using AAC, with a particular focus on those living with conditions such as cerebral palsy. Through powerful storytelling and heartfelt narratives, we aim to raise awareness about the importance of AAC in enabling communication and empowering individuals who cannot use their own voice and hence need AAC.

Produced and directed by award-winning Kate Caryer (who herself has cerebral palsy and is an AAC user and advocate) and Tristán White (who has a background both in accessibility and the world of speech and language therapy), we hope to entertain, educate and shock. Read more about us here.

Join us on a journey of discovery as we explore the past, present, and future of AAC, celebrating resilience, the triumphs and the vibrant community of AAC users. Together, let's amplify unspoken voices and advocate for accessibility and inclusion for all.

Everyone will give consent before being interviewed for our documentary, and consent can be withdrawn at any time. Furthermore, all participants who have been filmed will get the opportunity to see an early draft of the documentary and suggest if there is anything they would like to see changed or deleted, within reason. Where applicable, a special consent form using Picture Communication Symbols (PCS) will be used. This consent form is copyright of the I-ASC Study (Manchester Metropolitan University), and has been used with their permission.
